TIPS
- Set your intention now: I will return from holiday, or festive season activities, more healthy than ever before.
- Remain consistent with your healthy habits on holiday. In fact, be even better, because you have more time!
- List the 3 healthiest daily habits you applied in 2022. Decide to maintain them, for eg:
- Walk daily
- Drink enough water
- Snack on a fresh fruit
- Allow the colours of nature, to provide a natural feast, to entice your senses:
For eg: purple (beetroot) + red ( bell peppers ) + green ( snap peas ) + yellow ( pineapple ) + orange ( carrots )
- Wherever you are, investigate opportunities or spaces to be active daily: for eg a walk on the beach /in a nearby park
- Kids love to play. Play with them, in the pool, or park, on the beach, or in your garden! Allow children to be your “physical trainers”
- It is summertime in SA, a wonderful season to be celebrating with lighter healthier meals. For eg:
- a) braai chicken fillets and corn on the cob;
- b) serve fresh fruit slices,
- c) prepare a snack platter with olives, homemade avocado dip, celery fingers, mini cucumbers,
- d) boil baby potatoes with skins and drizzle with a yogurt/ parsley / onion dressing
- e) roast mushrooms with some garlic and olive oil or slices of butternut with cinnamon
- Involve everyone to be part of the Healthy Team: Delegate the above a) to e)
- A lighter healthier dessert could be a pavlova / meringue layered with whipped thick yogurt and tropical fresh fruit in season for eg mango / pawpaw / banana / berries.
- Most NB: Shop with discipline! Buy 90% healthy foods for home meals, because opportunities to eat higher kcalorie, richer portions will most likely occur.
